Boston Shines!   -   Three  cheers ...
for the Volunteers from the Mayor's Youth Council who worked hard to clean up the Bussey Brook Meadow, and
Many Thanks to Roche Brothers grocery stores for sponsoring the day and for their committment to our community.
As part of Boston Shines, the APC hosted a very effective clean up of the Bussey Brook Meadow.
One APC member not only led the trash removal brigade, but took the volunteers on a deer footprint expedition. Others tackled invasives (much more fun than old gutters and aerosol cans!)

The APC is proud to announce that we have been awarded a grant from Grow Boston Greener to remove the ailanthus on the stretch of the Blackwell Path next to the wetland to restore the view into the meadow, and stabilize the bank with indigenous tree and shrub species, many of which will attract birds.

This winter, the Arboretum Park Conservancy (APC) worked with Julie Warsowe, Manager of Visitor Education on the installation of five new signs along the Blackwell Footpath in the Bussey Brook Meadow. The APC applied to the
Edward Ingersoll Browne Fund
of the City of Boston and received a generous grant that paid for the fabrication and installation of these handsome black signs.

The Bussey Brook Botanical Inventory is now online!!!

What we would like you to know about the Arboretum Park Conservancy (APC):

The APC is a citizen voice for the Arnold Arboretum as a public park.

The APC is independent of both Harvard and the Boston Parks Department.

The APC's goals are  to promote public access to the Arboretum generally and to increase the variety of visitor experiences.

The Blackwell Footpath enables MBTA travelers to walk from Forest Hills Station through a beautiful urban wild to the South Street Gate of the Arnold Arboretum.  In the photo above, John Blackwell's wife, Eugenie Beal, is seated on the rock which honors him.   Genie Beal and John Blackwell are APC co-founders, open space advocates, and Genie is chair of the board of the Boston Natural Areas Network.  Click here for a link to BNAN.
