We are delighted to describe the past year as a year of “Welcomes.” We welcomed and congratulated Chris Cook, the recently appointed Commissioner of the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department. He attended our Annual Inspection of the Bussey Brook Meadow and got a first hand understanding of our plan to extend the footpath to Peters Hill and Archdale Road. We also welcomed two new members to our Board, Chris Busch and Laura Tenny. Although new to the Board, they have collaborated with the Arboretum Park Conservancy in other roles over the years, and bring new energy to our ongoing efforts.
We organized our now traditional bird walk in the meadow under the leadership of Bob Mayer. We held spring and fall clean-ups of trash and invasives. We continue to sell note cards with the popular illustrations of flora and fauna found along the Blackwell Footpath, drawn by former Board member Anne Schmalz.
Encouraged by the interest and expertise of Ned Friedman and Chris Cook and our two new Board members, we will continue to work to improve the safety and the appeal of the Bussey Brook Meadow for pedestrians by contributing to the repair of the puddingstone wall along South Street and extending and enhancing the Blackwell Footpath.
These are ambitious plans. We couldn’t begin to contemplate them without the donations we have received from friends like you over the years. We hope we can count on you again.
